About Us
Diverse & Dynamic

From the regeneration of sites creating new jobs and homes to the active Estate Management of the largest professional music community in the world and everything in between.

City & Provincial Properties was established by Paul Kempe over 35 years ago following his qualification as a solicitor. Since its inception, the company has been involved in a wide range of property related activities from city office developments to a mix of commercial, residential and student housing schemes primarily within and around Greater London and often conveniently located for public transport where the air space had not been fully utilised.

Optimum planning consents have invariably been obtained on all sites using patience and sensible promotion with local stakeholders. On the larger schemes, CPP have often partnered with commercial house builders and RSL’s. Projects such as Stockwell Green, Mitcham Common and Deptford Wharves which received planning consent for residential led schemes comprising 300, 220, and 900 units respectively as such examples.

Whilst strategic land purchases and planning are key components of the business, CPP has been focusing on the long term growth of its own investment portfolio which includes commercial and residential property. The culmination of years of experience across all property disciplines has led to one of our most noteable achievements in Kings Cross being the creative cluster of Tileyard Studios.

Tileyard has become the largest collaborative music community in the world. The community has now grown into complimentary industries such as fashion and technology. CPP have recently acquired adjacent sites to meet increasing occupier demand under the Tileyard brand.

Teenage Cancer Trust is a cancer care and support charity in the UK that exists to improve the cancer experience of young people aged 13–24. Founded in 1990, the charity’s key service is providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals.

Back in October 2009 Academy Music Group, the UK’s leading owner and operator of nationwide live music venues, chose Teenage Cancer Trust to be its charity partner.

Paul Kempe is an avid supporter of the trust and can be seen supporting and attending the trusts events especially due to its link with the music industry.

Our very own Chris Lovegrove is one of 5 trustees in The Raw Foundation which is the registered charity for Lionsraw UK.

Lionsraw’s vision was conceived in the Stadium of Light in Lisbon in the summer of 2004 by Jon Burns. Jon wondered how many of the 60,000 fans in the stadium shared both a passion for the beautiful game and a belief that this passion could be used to change lives. He wondered what great things could be achieved if it were possible to harness that passion and belief.

During the World Cup in 2010, 150 self-funded soccer fans came from the UK to combine their passion for soccer with helping the community. During the two weeks they were in Durban they did four building projects in the Valley of 1000 Hills (changing rooms for a soccer pitch at a children’s home, a four bedroom house for a children’s home, two blocks of toilets at a school and two classrooms for a new school plus seven soccer academies).

Lionsraw have continued to changes lives accross the world. They now operate in UK, South Africa, Poland, USA and Brazil.

CPP are one of the permanent sponsors of the Royal Academy and the Royal Academy Schools scheme including sponsorship through Tileyard of the annual RA Schools dinner. We strive to help aspiring artists and provide creative studio space for post graduate artists.

Paul and Susie Kempe have regularly backed artists with donations to the RA including bringing Ai Weiwei’s Tree sculptures to London’s Royal Academy.

The latest CPP venture in Wakefield has strong ties to the Hepworth. Working with the Hepworth Gallery and the local authority, the combined vision here is to develop an adjacent site at Rutland Mills to form a creative and cultural hub. This will draw on CPP’s experience in developing Tileyard London to provide dynamic studio and creative employment space and educational facilities to artists and innovators from all over the world.

Since it opened, over two million visitors have passed through the galleries. Footfall now exceeds 250,000 a year with 95 per cent of visitors rating their experience as excellent.

CPP are working closely with The Hepworth and Wakefield City Council in the development of Rutland Mills and have already hosted the ‘Future Creativity at Rutland Mills.’ An event which was held at the Hepworth and included talks, panels and networking for all creatives across music, radio, film, tv, games, digital, design, fashion, live events, art, sculpture and more to support the emergence of Wakefield as a centre of creative excellence of the North.
